Back in West Bay, East Cliff

The backdrop for the Broadchurch TV series. It’s a steep climb to the top but once you catch your breath the views are excellent.

View to the east across Chesil Beach to Portland Bill

And to the west, West Bay
Back at sea level I walked along the beach at the cliff face looking for fossils. This is the Jurassic Coast so I thought I could find one or two. Past the signs warning people to keep out because of possible landslips, the beach was littered with large fallen rocks and cliff face rubble.

There were quite a few people on the beach, many of them looking up admiring the rock formation.

I was looking down, searching for fossils. Looking up is obviously better than looking down if landslips are possible but it’s a real challenge trying to spot a 1/2″ fossil halfway up an 80ft cliff face. I gave up after 10 minutes’ fruitless searching (if you exclude one sock and two soda cans) and returned to the main beach.
