Teulada Moraira, Festival of Moros y Cristianos (Moors and Christians)

Well nearly. Unfortunately we visit Moraira a day early, on Thursday; the 3-day festival begins Friday. The festival is a re-enactment of the Moors’ invasion of Spain in the 8th century & subsequent Christian conquest of the Moors in the 15th century.

Moraira is about 30 minutes’ drive (a couple of Euros on the A7 toll road) south of Oliva.  It’s a small town with a marina and several beaches but today isn’t exactly beach weather.

We’re here to meet an old friend who we last saw in the mid-80s and we spend several hours over coffee, followed by lunch, catching up on the intervening years: who’s doing what and living where. Neither of us could imagine being permitted to spend 4 hours at the same table in a restaurant at home!

Continuing our search for the ultimate supermarket we stopped at a Lidl supermarket on our way home. Bit disappointing: much of the produce was packaged and imported so no opportunity to explore local checkout and security procedures.
